Cultural Context:
It seems people today are more reluctant than ever to deal with failure, make mistakes, take a punch in the face from life itself. And that’s a shame, because failure is essential to success.

That’s why it is time to celebrate failure as a vital part of any real achievement. HORNBACH embraces the idea that setbacks are part of the journey, and that pushing through them builds true strength and character. With a fully honest approach to Do-It-Yourself, that couldn’t be more true: No Project without Drama.

The message? Keep going. Keep building. And above all: Get active.

The Problem:
Those who fear mistakes, pain, or setbacks are unlikely to take on big challenges. And in a time when many try to shield themselves from even the possibility of failure, inaction takes over.

And inaction is the arch-enemy of DIY superstore HORNBACH. To convince people to challenge problems with their own bare hands, of course a Computer generated or even AI generated spectacle would proof to be non-sensical.

So HORNBACH created a lovingly hand crafted theater play, with handbuilt stages, real flooded rooms and walls that collapse via wires and pulleys. Even an ocean and thunderstorms were made by hand – and mouth-made sounds.

The Solution:
Half Film, half theater play, a bath renovation turns into a drama. In an ordinary, old bathroom, a single pipe starts to leak, slowly at first, triggering a chain reaction.

As the woman who owns the bathroom notices the leak, the situation escalates: pipes burst, water gushes out, and the room begins to flood. This marks the beginning of her challenging journey, fixing the entire bathroom on her own, with nothing but her own two hands.

What follows is an odyssey full of setbacks and small victories. The impossible task of choosing the right bathtub from thousands.

The brutal reality of getting it into an upstairs apartment. Mixing cement. Tiling walls. And smashing a few fingers along the way. But after all the struggle, the reward is even greater: the pride of having done it all herself.

The Results:
As the campaign just started, no numbers regarding ad recall or website visits and the likes are made. Other than the many enthusiastic comments in social media and press. People feel seen, understood and expressed their excitemtent for the truth behind the expression: No project without Drama.
